I would rather it got tweaked, as the player adds some much needed flavour and variety to a roster that will otherwise see virtually no variation.
The player either needs to have a more defined role, or he should be cut from the roster entirely. My point is that keeping the assassin as it is, is a waste of space. Sure, they can find ways to make that Str 2 player useful, but they are losing out in other ways. If people take the new assassin, then they now have a Str 2 player on the field instead of a lino, or another positional. Like I pointed out Narly, this change does not make the dark elf team better IMO.
Otherwise, no thankyou to making one of the best teams in BB even better. Or, keep his movement at 6 and you've got a deal. Reduce the number of Blitzers on the team and you've got a deal. And once they get blodge, S2 isn't really that much of a disadvantage anyway. And reducing his strength really isn’t that detrimental as it is very rare that the assassin will block anyway, almost always stabbing instead. Whilst I appreciate that the change would increase the Assassin's use, it just makes Dark Elves an even stronger team than they were before by addressing a weakness (low movement - at least compared to other Elves) and complementing a strength (stronger armour, which is mostly AV8 anyway). At all tv's, Dark Elves are one of the best races (IMO) and I would rank them as one of the top 3 or 4 teams in Blood Bowl. I 'm in the same camp as JM am of the opinion that Dark Elves are strong enough already without making the Assassin any better. With Blodge and Side-Step he can still be a very useful man marker even with Str 2. Ma 7 makes Shadowing a viable skill for him and Av 8 means he stands a decent chance of staying on the pitch in most games. In terms of the fluff it makes sense that the assassin be a weakling, as he relies on the knife and his stealth to be effective on the pitch. I think this makes a lot of sense from a fluff perspective and to make him a more useful player that coaches are more likely to use.
Most people advocate making him Ma 7, or Av 8, but I have a different suggestion, which is to give him both Ma 7 and Av 8!īefore the outrage begins, let me clarify that by also stating that he gets a nerf at the same time, which is to make him Str 2! So the Assassin would be 7 2 4 8 with Shadowing and Stab and his cost could stay the same or even come down to 80K potentially. This is a pity, because a lot of dark elf coaches don't use an assassin given that he currently does not fit into an already expensive roster. To me the positional player that most needs changing is the Dark Elf assassin and, even though it has come up in a lot of discussions on different forums, you have left him the same in your list.
